Against the percentages, this modification has prompted minimum social disruption and rigidity. whereas immigration has generated a few political and social anxieties, Australia has maintained a good democracy and a coherent social textile. one of many striking achievements of this e-book is in explaining why this would be so.

Eric Richards recounts the stories of many person migrants from world wide, examines the dramas and demanding situations of officers curious about this grand test and finally ends up telling a very awesome tale. For six decades this simple mechanism gave Australia extraordinary control over the composition of its immigration. The price it paid was in its much reduced ability to recruit immigrants and also in its international reputation. Excluding unwanted aliens was only one side of the equation for White Australia.

It was a demographic disaster, the consequence of women ‘Gratifying their selfish desires’. It gave no hope of ‘a teeming population springing from Australian parents’.
